following his release on peter van hoesens time to express late last year, sp-x drops his third ep for komisch. fans of >signal path experiments< and >field lines never end< will not be disappointed as the brussels - based producer serves up three more slices of uncompromising warehouse techno. lead track <the escape< has all the sp-x hallmarks - rock hard beats, thundering claps and a swinging groove that underpins eerie riffs and clanking metallic drums >stalker< reveals a more musical slant to sp-xs sound. it starts off with unsettling riffs, but soon the rolling drum-led arrangement changes tact and provides the backdrop for a growling chord climax. there is a similar concession on >attack pattern< bruising doubled-up drums and that unmistakably snappy sp-x percussion combine with subtle snare rolls to create a peak time arrangement. but once again an insistent chord sequence gives it the edge over functional techno. make sure to hunt this killer release down

fresh out of melbournes reputed house scene, the tortoise is one of the hottest talents to emerge from the current wave of house breaking down under. a side the puffing tortoise captures the 21-year-olds precocious talent and aims it squarely at the peak time. working his trademark airy vocals around a familiar disco refrain and bubbling bass, he works the track into a sweaty climax and skilfully keeps it there throughout the midsection. turning in a late night chugger on their remix, berlin based canadians the mole and hreno ride an insistent pulse and insect like percussion. twisting the samples, they guide the track into a dark jungle of chattering sounds to temper the tortoise youthful exuberance. the analogue melancholy of keep on keepin on is all in the sweeping synths and twinkling effects. recoiling the tension, the chicago influenced track seeps through the speakers and will sound as good at home as it will during specially chosen dancefloor moments. rondenion approaches the title track with fearless disregard for the original, combining the swelling tortoise sound with something entirely his own. his addition of a funk fuelled midsection, really breaks the track down and adds another slice of character to an ep already brimming with it.

short stories is the fruition of musical ideas brought forth by label owner / chief producer gabriel ananda and multitalented instrumentalist and vocalist alice rose. the two of them have come together to resurrect a project from 2001 and have put together a colorful mix of strings, vocals, and melodies. there is something familiar and comforting in the sound of this ep. it could be roses strings, which were introduced with her debut for basmati food for dreams (basmati 06), or elements of anandas live series, there is an aspect to the sound that just fits. ananda and rose have delivered the complete package. the a-side opens with the not-so-short short stories, a fourteen minute evolving trip covering the scope of both producers� talents. the b-side contains two versions of �struck by light. the techno version comes with power and emotion, crafted for the dance floor, which is followed by the deeper, original version recorded for the first time in 2001.

nice price deal !!! vladivostok lad eastcolors is probably most well-known within the dnb community for his mixes and for his collaborations with enei and nuage. as far as modern drum and bass is concerned eastcolors is at the forefront of that techy, fresh sound emanating from eastern europe and russia. with this in mind then, it is clear that while his tunes fuse well with his fellow russian drum and bass cohorts, eastcolors is making a departure from collabs. what better way to celebrate demands tenth release then, with eastcolors settings about placing his name upfront and alone with his first ever solo 12 inch. on the flip >heavy tone< rumbles forth with a typically eastcolors take on what a roller should be. lenzman-esque synths and strange, celestial vocals are quickly worked over by an electrical storm of droning bass and pads. as the synths return to break up the clouds here and there, >heavy tone< loses the idea of becoming another lost bass-heavy roller and settles into being a multi-layered piece of quality drum and bass.

if you like the sound of cheap analog synthesizers from the mid 80s, drum machines and strangely pitched human voices this might be the record for you. a small warning about the quite melodic and poppy arrangement, it is not minimal, nor pure drones. sorry. estelle ep has nothing to do with the car �koda estelle, even though some instruments used on the songs were produced during the same years. estelle ep is more or less a result of the new kranglan broadcast hardware studio environment. the plan was simple: to get rid of the machines that were not being used and to make the rest communicate with each other. this resulted in some very fine jams where realtime feelings and spontaneous ideas were converted into music. each track is its own moment in time.

for a short period in 1981 and with brand-new equipment such as roland 808, sh 101, gr 500, we made some 8-track just for fun jam tapes. mainly just to experiment for our own pleasure. from those sessions, only white horse made it to a final treatment. the rest of the material was left behind, as our record company at the time found it too different. after white horse being a track indeed defining our sound, we thought it would be interesting to dig out left-overs to fulfill a documentation of that period - crucial for us at the time. we were still innocent newcomers, without actually knowing to be creating a new sound! recently, that left-over material was transferred from analogue to digital and, to stay as true as possible to original intentions, we only added vocals, bass and drumbeats ahead of a final mix. we hope that you will enjoy listening to it. good vibes from laid back copenhagen 2012.
